"2019 Global Education Robot Development White Paper" released in Beijing

The institute of intelligent learning of Beijing normal university and the national engineering laboratory of intelligent technology and application of Internet education jointly released a white paper on global educational robot development 2019 at the world robot congress in Beijing, capital of China, Aug. 23, 2019.



Zeng haijun, deputy director of the institute of intelligent learning at Beijing normal university, introduced the research framework and main viewpoints of the white paper on behalf of the project team.Based on the research results of 2016 white paper on global educational robot development, the white paper collects, summarizes, analyzes and compares all kinds of data to provide a comprehensive report on academic research results, industry status and trend, and educational application for the academic, educational and industrial circles.This paper discusses the innovative application ways of educational robot, and how to design and develop the functions that can meet the needs of various educational service objects, and points out the possible trend for the future development of educational robot, providing reference information for frontline teachers, education policy makers and enterprises that want to enter the educational robot industry.



White paper analyzes the education robot research focus in the last five years, summarizes the education robot of 17 kinds of roles and 12 kind of application situation, put forward four dimensions analysis frame, five levels of products, access to the 7 class perspective of 9 populations demand for education robot, summarizes the three key technologies and the mainstream design train of thought, finishing the framework layer 7 industrial chain, and education robot market model forecast to 2023 will reach 84.1 billion dollars.



Through literature research, the white paper lists the 10 most important educational robot research institutions in the world. According to the results of keyword clustering analysis, the main areas and five hot spots of educational robot academic research are obtained.



In order to understand the current distribution of products in the market, the white paper puts forward two dimensions of 'applicable objects' and 'application field', and proposes an analytical framework from the perspective of the relationship between products and users to illustrate the current development of the market.It can be seen that educational robot products are mainly used in the field of family and school, and some products are still in the conceptual stage, such as classroom robot 'teaching assistant' and robot 'teacher'.

Finally, the white paper puts forward six key points of view for the development of educational robots:



1. Statistics found that the United States, Europe (UK, France, Italy) is a major area of robot education academic research, the research focused on the education of the robot body, role and influence, teaching practice, five aspects, the design and application situation for STEAM, language education, the value of the physical and mental disorder treatment, and the cultivation of student's ability to pay more attention to by academic circles.



2. The diversity of educational users determines their wide and different needs for educational robots.From the perspective of application field, the demand suitable for families is obviously more than the demand suitable for schools.From the perspective of functional utility, there is a large demand for assisting language education and robot education.From the perspective of applicable objects, the demand for students is higher than that for other groups.



3. The design of educational robots should be based on demand analysis and focus on intelligence, which should not only meet the subjective needs of users, enhance the natural human-computer interaction experience, but also maintain rational judgment of user needs.



4. Human-machine interaction, machine vision and situational awareness are three key technologies to be vigorously developed in the research of educational robots;The combination of educational robot native intelligence and cloud intelligent design will provide new ideas for improving perception and interaction capabilities.In addition, educational robots should also develop more educational applicability and improve the competency of educational services.



5. The end consumer market of educational robot is expanding rapidly, and the educational robot industry will usher in a period of rapid development.Dedicated product research and development and promotion ideas gradually formed, will become a blue ocean market for system integrators;Segmentation is expected to be the main development direction of educational robot market in the future.



6. Educational robot market will form a service-oriented ecosystem circle.Similar to the development process of smart phones, education robot operating system and open SDK or API services attract software developers to join, forming a whole set of service system from hardware integration to software development to various teaching services.
